Free Arcade Games You Can Actually Beat
Free-Play Retro Arcade Games – All April Long
This April, all 1up locations are putting 4 different classic arcade games on free play, and we’re excited to share some of our favorites with you. Each game has its own history, its own challenge, and its own kind of magic that makes retro arcades feel special.
Westminster – Zoo Keeper 🦁
Originally released in 1982, Zoo Keeper is a fast-paced puzzle game where your job is simple: keep the animals in their cages. Jump over them, bounce them back, and try to chain combos for bigger points. It’s easy to pick up but tricky to master, especially when the pace picks up.
Greenwood Village – Kangaroo 🦘
Hop, punch, and climb as a momma kangaroo on a mission to save her joeys. Released in 1982, this platformer is all about timing your jumps and avoiding mischievous monkeys. It’s a game that feels familiar the moment you start playing, yet still keeps you on your toes.
LoDo – Kung-Fu Master 🥋
From 1984, Kung-Fu Master puts you in the shoes of Thomas, fighting your way through five floors to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend. Simple controls mask a deeper rhythm: knowing when to punch, kick, or dodge is everything. It’s one of those games that rewards practice more than luck.
Colfax – Crystal Castles 💎
Step into a 3D-like maze as Bentley Bear, collecting gems while avoiding witches, bees, and evil trees. Released in 1983, Crystal Castles was ahead of its time with its visuals and level design. Planning your path and memorizing enemy patterns is key, but it’s also just fun to explore each maze.
Why Play Them All?
Each 1up location has its own free-play classic this month. Play one, or make it a mini tour and hit all four. These games are more than nostalgia, they’re little challenges, little victories, and a reminder of why we fell in love with arcades in the first place.
Grab a joystick, find your rhythm, and see if you can beat the high score. 🦾
